Meet at 9 AM at the Shell station off of exit 151 in George, WA. We will drive another 40 minutes to the Hungate Canyon trailhead near Palisades. The trail begins in Moses Coulee and crosses private property to the mouth of Hungate Canyon. From there, we will be on BLM land and will be free to leave the trail. We continue a bit further upstream past a trickling waterfall, then head steeply uphill to the north, gaining the eastern rim of Moses Coulee. Throughout this hike, we will be crossing steep, rocky, and rugged terrain as we climb over hills and pass through deep canyons. Petrified wood can be found within the canyons throughout this area. We will continue north to point 2732’, where we will have views of Moses Coulee and the eastern edge of the Cascades. This hike should be considered strenuous and is best suited for physically fit individuals who are comfortable with off trail hiking. Round trip distance is approximately 10.5 miles with 4200’ elevation gain. Contact Tyler Nyman (509-270-8236) for more information. Please note: the Spokane Mountaineers are following current COVID 19 guidelines. At the time of posting, the plan will be to drive separate vehicles and practice social distancing during the hike. These parameters are subject to change in the future.
