Snow Camping, Group Dynamics, Snow Skills, Summit Climb, Self-Arrest:
Meet on Mt. Spokane in the Spokane Mountaineers Chalet parking lot for a 7:45 student meeting and 8am Trail Time with packs ready for a weekend adventure. We will climb to Bald Knob to build our campsites and break out into teams for the afternoon. In the evening we’ll prepare dinner and gaze at the stars. You will participate in team-building exercises, learn some basic belay techniques, and build an emergency snow cave. Early Sunday morning, we will climb to the top of Mount Spokane and then, if conditions allow, we will try and get some good snow slides going to learn to self-arrest. After self-arrest practice, we will break camp and return to the Chalet parking lot. Bring your helmet, ice axe & leash, and crampons. If you have your full glacier package (helmet, ice axe & leash, chest harness, climbing harness, 3 locking carabiners, 4 non-locking carabiners, prusik cords, belay device, and pulley) already, you should bring it to get used to packing it with all your camping gear. This exercise is on regardless of weather. This event is only open to current mountain school students and instructors.
