Meet at 8 AM at the Safeway in Davenport. We will drive approximately 1 hour 15 minutes to the parking area northwest of Grand Coulee. This hike features big views to the north, across the Columbia River to the Okanogan Highlands. Along the way, we will pass seasonal ponds, basalt cliffs and many erratic boulders left behind from the last ice age. The tread will be a mix of game and cattle trails, old roadbeds, and off trail rambling. For the most part, the terrain consists of gentle grades over rolling hills, but there will also be steep and rocky slopes that require strong ankles and good balance. Please come prepared with sturdy footwear and hiking poles. A Discover Pass is required for parking. Round trip distance will be approximately 12.5 miles with 2600’ elevation gain. See "Documents" for a topographic map of the hike. Contact Tyler Nyman (509-270-8236) for more information. Please note: the Spokane Mountaineers are following current COVID 19 guidelines. At the time of posting, the plan will be to drive separate vehicles and practice social distancing during the hike. These parameters are subject to change in the future.
