***as of 2/13 this crew is full. Please email Holly to be added to the waitlist in the event we are able to have a larger crew size under phase 2*** This is the annual Mountaineers service project on the Wenaha River Trail within the Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness and the kick-off to the 2021 backpack season! We will meet at the Troy TH on Thursday morning (time TBD once crew list is finalized) and hike in on the Wenaha River Trail. We'll address maintenance needs as we hike in, with the main goal of focusing on the section of trail once we enter the Wilderness at the 5 mile mark. We typically set up a basecamp at the Crooked Creek trail junction, roughly mile 6, and continue our work each day by working farther up the drainage. If water level allows, we may cross Crooked Creek to work on the Wenaha River Trail. Due to current Covid-19 restrictions our crew size is limited to 5 total participants at this time. IF group size restrictions change before this trip takes place, we can accommodate additional participants up to the Wilderness group size limit of 12 (please reach out to be added to the waitlist in the event the trip reaches capacity at 5). Each participant will need to be comfortable being self-supported (no carpooling at this time, no sharing of gear, and no tool sharing), including everything needed for both backpacking and trailwork. Tools can be supplied by the crew leaders (sanitized and passed out at the TH) or participants are encouraged to bring their own tools if they have them. Participants should bring facemasks and hand sanitizer, although we intend to maintain 6' distancing at all times. Typically trailwork tasks include brushing work, log-out (we'll do single-buck crosscut work due to Covid-19 and social distancing), tread work and drainage work. Please reach out to the crew leaders if you have questions about the nature of this trip or your readiness to join in on the fun!
