This is an overnight trip in the Cabinet Mountains of Montana and Idaho. We will meet Saturday and carpool to the trailhead, a drive of approximately 3 hours. We will hike about 5 miles along a brushy trail to camp at Little Spar Lake. The next morning we will set off for the summit of Scotchman No. 2. Expect slow progress as we bushwhack through heavy foliage to gain the boulder fields above treeline. A steep climb up a shale slope will bring us to a narrow and rugged ridgeline, which we will follow to the summit of Scotchman No. 2. Enjoy the views of this remote and spectacular landscape. We will take the same route back to the lake, break camp, and head home. Round trip distance is 13.5 miles with 4,500 ft elevation gain. This is a strenuous hike with 2nd and 3rd class scrambling over loose rock, and is for strong and experienced hikers only. This is grizzly country. Group size limit 6. Please RSVP to Tyler.
